10 NORTH: 10 Years 10 Women 10 Words

Celebrate the 10th Anniversary of 10 North, an artists’s group with an art exhibition of 10 original paintings, created specially for this occasion.

10 North, an artists’ group is celebrating their 10 year Anniversary.
Founded in 1993, the group will have a special exhibition of 10 paintings.
Each member of the group, has selected one word that represents a subject or feeling inspired by being in 10 North. Whether it’s an object that the artist feels represents their own work, like ‘beach’ or a word that describes the closeness of the group like ‘sisterhood,’ each word was thoughtfully selected.
The assignment was for each member to paint a full sheet painting (22”x30”) and incorporate each of the 10 words, either as text or symbol in their original painting. The only requirement for representation of each of the words, is that the artist can point to something on the painting and state that it represents each word.
The 10 words are:
- beach
- cross
- iris
- heart
- laughter
- light
- sisterhood
- tree
- vegetable
- zebra
10 North artists are: Carol Black, Susan Avery Clark, Diane Detwiler, Pat Dispenziere, Helen Shafer Garcia, Phyllis Kelley, Jane LaFazio, Caroline Linscott, Rhonda Miles, and Jeannie Moore.
The ten women paint together, put on art exhibitions of their work, and provide emotional support for each of their artistic endeavors. As a result of forming this group, they have all become very good friends, and the camaraderie of the group has enriched their lives as artists and as women.
10 North is one of North County’s first established private art groups, founded in 1993 by current member Susan Avery Clark, long-time Escondido art teacher, along with Jane LaFazio, Diane Detwiler, and Phyllis Kelley.
